ABSTRACT
As the number of wireless networks increased, so too did the need for a wireless networking standard. 802.11 belongs to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802 family of standards for local and metropolitan area networks and wireless LANs. Wireless networks use radio frequency signals to transmit data and for this reason are more prone to security threats than wired networks due to their broadcast nature. The Wireless Equivalent Privacy (WEP) protocol was developed to protect the privacy of data transmissions in 802.11 WLANs.

Keywords : Standar 802.11, standar 802.11a, standar 802.11b, standar 802.11g, Access Point, Wireless Fidelity (WiFi), HotSpot Area, WEP.
