ABSTRACT
Steganography is a common method used today for security purpose. The method uses image as a container for the information wishing to be kept secret. Theoretically, it inserts secret coded message(s) to the lowest data bit or allocating them into the less-densely frequency. The other method used is to apply sampling error in the image digitalization process. There are weaknesses associated with such method one of which is the limited performance of the method to include not more than 5 – 15 % of the image carrier. Current need of steganography is to adapt the method for watermark than to apply it as a secret communication purpose.
Bit concealing is conducted by replacing the bit used in image data with the secret information. The method is by modifying the least and the most significant bit.
The study uses the bit plane complexity segmentation method applied to the 24-bit image sample file. The study wishes to exhibit the reader to the insertion of secret data into an image file by applying the bit plane complexity segmentation method. The study shows that the process does not result in changing the characteristics of the image.
