Abnormal Waves Detection From The Electroencephalograms (Eegs) Of Epilepsy Cases Based On Mathematic And Statistical Characteristics

ABSTRACT
The application of a digital signal processing to EEG waves is to acquire the shapes of the respective autocorrelation, crosscorrelation and power spectral density functions, as well as to find the parameters values of the associated specific waves understood as “spikes” , “polyphases” and “sharps”.
Based on a sufficiently large number of patients with a variety of symptoms, we expect to draw someconsistent and distinct relations between the specific forms of the autocorrelations as well as the power spectral densities and their associated diagnostic aspects. Patient consist of 400M, 250F, ages 5-40 years. Clinical status: epileptic (107M, 80F: EEG with spike; 38M,18F without); clinical status: nonepileptic: (193M, 91F EEG with spike ; 112M, 61F without). Numerical data were acquired with EEG dump diagnostic Biologic system at Sarjito hospital Yogyakarta etc, 2002-2005.
The acquired parameters values of the “spikes”, “polyphases”, and “sharps” are intended to establish a procedure to determine or classify the respective phenomena, automatically with a computer. The experimental results show a promising application of the scheme, since practically all are in line with those assessed by specialists in this field. Utilizing the hardware and software facilities at hand, marking the st arts and ends of abnormal waves could be done with +30µV threshold. The zerocrossings detection could automatically distinguished according to the 20ms–70ms time period for the “spikes” (120M, 87F)(10,7%) ,70ms-120ms for “sharps” (296M, 140F), and the existence of multiple peaks for “polyphase”(34M, 23F).
The research carried out so far was to find the prospect of this digital signal processing on EEG waves to support the doctors’ work in this field.
